Motorola Revou: The TV That Easily Beats Samsung, Sony & LG's Lower Range TVs

Recently, we went on a TV testing spree to find out the best 55 inches TV in the affordable range. This TV that we will be reviewing today turned out to be the best one in picture quality, not only in the budget category but, it also defeats the lower-range TVs of the higher brands. It might be a bit old, but its picture quality is so good that it is definitely THE BEST TV that I have reviewed in the affordable range category. I have carried out a detailed video review of this TV on my YouTube channel Techiebeez India, to watch that review CLICK HERE.

 Built & Design Motorola Revou

This is the 55 inches Motorola Revou TV. In looks, this TV is pretty slim and smart. It is more or less bezel-less from three sides, whereas, a 50 Watts soundbar has been integrated onto the lower bezel. The soundbar gets a dual-tone linen finish, which imparts a premium look to this TV. Along with this TV, you get a metallic one-piece tabletop stand, which enhances the aesthetics of this TV to give it a stylish look. Overall, the built quality of this TV is pretty good and it is elegant in looks.

Motorola Revou Connectivity Options

This Motorola TV comes with 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, 1 Ethernet port, 1 Optical port, 1 RF input port and an Analog input port. However, a headphone jack goes missing on it. The TV comes with dual-band Wi-Fi and two-way Bluetooth v5.0, along with a built-in Chromecast and a Google Assistant. It has both HDMI CEC and ARC on it and the foremost thing is that it comes with an HDMI 2.1a compliant port, which is a rare find in the budget category.

Motorola Revou Specifications

This Motorola TV supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10 and HLG. Apart from the ADS panel, it comes with DLED backlighting, smart dimming, 420 Nits brightness, 60 Hz refresh rate and a static contrast ratio of 3000:1. This TV comes fitted with a Mediatek CA53 Quadcore processor, whose clocking speed goes up to 1.5 GHz. And, the graphic engine used is the 850 MHz Mali G52. Apart from this, it has 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. The operating system is Android 10.0.

 Picture quality Motorola Revou

Now, coming to the picture quality of this TV, you need to know the fact that none of the companies reveals the real value of their TVs' brightness, all give an exaggerated figure. All cost-effective TVs, even the best ones, irrespective of them being from a higher brand, come with a brightness lesser than 400 Nits.

However, the brightness claimed in this Motorola TV is almost correct, which makes it the brightest TV in the budget category. On this TV, you get to see very sharp images. The pictures display a shiny glow, which goes missing on the TVs having lesser brightness. The ADS panel used in this TV stands very close to an IPS panel TV, because of which the TV's viewing angle is pretty good. In comparison to IPS panels, a higher contrast ratio can be achieved on a TV that has an ADS panel. Because of this, the contrast ratio of this TV is pretty decent. The colour reproduction of this Motorola TV is more like a VA panel TV. The wide colour gamut present on this TV makes its colours superb. You get to see bright and punchy colours on it. In comparison to IPS panel TVs, you get to see deeper Blacks on this Motorola TV. The foremost thing about this TV is that you don't get to see any light peeping out from the sides or corners. There is a negligible dirty screen effect on this TV. As you can see, there are hardly any dark patches visible on the edges, because of which the picture quality of this TV looks pretty clean, just like the high brand TVs.

The SDR performance of this TV is superb. Pictures look realistic and there is accuracy in its colours. Details in dark scenes are also displayed with much clarity on this TV. Talking about the HDR performance of this TV, this TV, too, does not make the HDR contents much different from the SDR ones. But still, its HDR performance is better than other budget TVs. However, the details in highlights are not as much clear as those on TVs having more than 1000 Nits brightness.
The Dolby Vision performance of this TV is effective, but like its HDR 10 performance, it is not as good as that seen on TVs having high brightness. The digital noise reduction feature of this TV works pretty well and when you watch low-resolution movies through the USB port, you get to see a good picture upscaling on it.

The SD box performance, too, looks decent on this 4k TV. People who like to watch SD channels, for them too, this TV is appropriate. In dim lights and medium lights, too, this TV gives a good performance. Being an ADS panel TV, this TV exhibits a good fusion of VA and IPS panels.
Talking about the Motion blur on this TV; Alike other 60 Hz TVs, motion blur can be seen on it during fast action scenes, but normally, the motion blur is hardly visible. If we compare this TV to Samsung Crystal Pro, because of more brightness, detail clarity, and, far better-viewing angles, this Motorola TV easily beats that Samsung TV.

Motorola Revou Audio

There is a dedicated AmphisoundX Pro soundbar on this Motorola TV, which comes with a 4-unit set-up. Apart from two speakers having 24 Watts audio output, there are two 26 Watts Octave tweeters. The TV has a 360-degree surround sound effect and comes with Dolby Atmos. In addition to this, it supports Dolby audio and DTS studio sound. Going by the TV standards, the audio is pretty good and you get to hear decent highs, mids and lows. Vocals are clear and there is much clarity in the dialogue delivery. The bass of this TV is decent, but if you think that by keeping the bass on its highest, you would get a booming bass effect, it would be a fallacy as this way you get to hear a fake bass effect, which affects the vocal clarity and leads to irritation. Just remember, that in a TV you cannot get the booming bass effect as for that you require a big box that can accommodate a big coil and a magnet. Unlike soundbars, the slim design factor of TVs does not allow this much space, this is why a booming bass effect in TVs is not possible. So expecting a TV to perform like a soundbar is unrealistic. If you will not expect a home theatre like audio from this TV, you will definitely love its sound. This TV comes in the category of the best sounding TVs. The support for Dolby Atmos is there on this TV, but this TV, too, fails to give any real Dolby Atmos effect. However, when you connect it to a Dolby Atmos soundbar you will get a better audio quality than any ordinary TV.

 Motorola Revou Smartness

This is an Android Smart TV, in which apart from pretty good browsing experience, you get the liberty to play almost all your favourite applications. The TV gives access to the Google Playstore, its UI is pretty smooth and the Google Assistant follows your voice commands promptly. Casting is smooth on this TV. Through Bluetooth, you can connect your gaming pad, keyboard, mouse and headphones to it.

In the category of affordable TVs, This Motorola TV is also suitable for gaming. It comes with low input lag and fast response time along with very good graphics. Though the HDMI 2.1 port makes this TV fully compatible with PS5 Gaming Station, its low refresh rate of only 60 Hz, does not allow you to exploit the PS5 to its fullest as it comes with a 120 Hz variable refresh rate. But, unfortunately, none of the 55 inches TVs in the budget category come with a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Coming to its aftersales services: As it is a Flipkart TV, the services are looked after by Jeeves, which though, not good, are fair enough to get your job done.In the end, I will only put up that this is an excellent TV in the budget category, whose picture quality, audio, viewing angles and Android experience is flawless. Its picture quality is even better than the lower range TVs of the higher brands. You can buy it without a second thought.
