Motorola ZX Pro 55-inch Ultra HD TV| An In-depth Review|

Is Motorola ZX Pro With LG Panel, The Best TV In Budget Category?

Flipkart has recently launched yet another model of its TV, the Motorola ZX Pro, which is a successor to its last year's model Motorola ZX, which came with a complimentary gaming controller. This new TV, too, comes with a wireless gamepad, which certainly is an added attraction for kids or casual gamers.

This year, with the launch of some really good performers like Nokia & Motorola TVs, Flipkart has undeniably carved out a niche of its own in the television market, which previously despite the release of its average quality MarQ televisions seemed a far-fetched dream. Acquiring the license to use these brand names for its own televisions, has worked magically for Flipkart, which in amalgamation with some actually good specifications has worked like charm in occupying a considerable chunk of the Indian television market.

In this article, I will be reviewing the 55-inch Motorola ZX Pro. Look-wise Motorola ZX pro is a replica of its previous version Motorola ZX, however, internally there are deviations from the previous model.

In the box, along with the TV, you get a remote, two AAA+ batteries, a gaming controller, a power cord, one AV converting cable, a wall-mount, a table-top stand, some screws for fixing the stand & a quick set-up guide. The remote is pretty decent in construction. It is the same tall & sleek designed remote that came with the previous model.

The silver & grey contrast of the remote makes it pretty smart in looks. It comes with a Google Assistant has direct buttons to Netflix, YouTube, Google Play & Media.

The TV comes with Black ultra-slim bezels. A metallic silver coloured soundbar, which comes attached to the bottom bezel, elevates the looks of this TV and catapults it into a premium category. The modish smart look of this TV has the power to augment the aesthetics of your room decor. The grey stylish desktop-stand stands in perfect synchronization with the aura of this TV.

On the rear, the TV fails to impress as it gets a normal Black plastic finish. The wall-mount of this TV gives you the flexibility to slightly lift the TV while connecting cables or a pen drive. There are 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports on this TV, along with a Lan port, SPDIF port and an antenna port. HDMI ARC & CEC are present on this TV.

This model of Motorola gets a dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity option, whereas, the previous one was limited to a single-band Wi-Fi. This TV is touted to have LG's super bright 10-bit IPS panel, however, the company has not revealed whether it has ELED or DLED backlighting. Apart from this, it comes with HDR 10 and Dolby Vision support.

The company lays stake to the claim that for the best viewing experience, the AutoTuneX display engine automatically tunes each frame of the video content to an optimal combination of colours & contrast. The company also claims a 400 Nits brightness for this television, however, it fails to mention the contrast ratio.

Now, coming to the actual picture performance of this TV. Despite being an IPS panel TV, its colour reproduction is pretty decent. However, expecting bright & punchy colours from it will be unjustified as IPS panel is incapable of rendering vivid colours, like a VA panel TV. There are 5 picture modes on this TV including Game Mode, but if you are desirous of obtaining a VA panel-like picture quality, Vivid Mode is the best that you can get on this TV. Being an IPS panel TV, the contrast ratio is low because of which you don't get to see deep Blacks on it. However, during bright scenes, Blacks do not appear dull at all, rather, they look pretty decent, but in dark scenes, the Blacks give more of a grey effect. Though the detail clarity of this TV is good, sometimes during dark scenes, minute details get veiled behind the grey.

The viewing angle of this TV is good and it is fully apt for placing it even in a big hall. The company has exaggerated the brightness value of this TV. The ground reality is that the brightness of this TV stands around 350 Nits. Even the LG TVs having IPS panel do not have high brightness. Low brightness in LG TVs is seen as a major disappointment for those users, who are aware of the role that high brightness plays in the creation of better picture quality.

This is an 8-bit panel with dithering and not a real 10-bit as claimed by the company. Though not much, banding, is occasionally visible on this TV while watching contents. Coming to the Dolby Vision and HDR10 performance of this TV, though, we didn't find anything enthusiastic about it, it did not disappoint us either. The picture did get enhanced while watching Dolby Vision and HDR 10 contents. Here again it would be unjustified to expect high-end HDR performance from this budget TV, having 350 Nits brightness.

As is the case with all televisions having a refresh rate of 60 Hz, this TV, too, fails to impede the motion Blur during fast action scenes. The BlazeX performance enabled by MEMC technology turns out to be just some high-end term used as a marketing gimmickry to promote this TV. This TV comes with 50W two front-firing AmphisoundX speakers that come with DTS as well as Dolby Atmos support.

The sound quality of this TV though not excellent is loud enough and enjoyable too. There was a crispness in dialogue delivery and dialogues could be heard effortlessly. You also get to hear an adequate bass on this TV. However, the speakers fail to deliver any noticeable effect of Dolby Atmos, though, we did get some surround sound experience occasionally.

The TV comes with a two-way Bluetooth v5.0 connectivity. You can enjoy the music stored on your phone on this TV & vice versa. This TV also allows wireless headphone connectivity. This TV features a built-in Chromecast, however, connectivity with some phones might be a problem.

This is an Android TV that comes with the latest Android 10 operating system. It comes with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. The Mediatek Quadcore C53 processor that clocks at 1.5 GHz ensures that this TV runs all applications smoothly without any lag. For graphics, it gets a Quadcore Mali G52 graphic engine clocked at 850 MHz.

On this TV, many of your favourite applications come pre-loaded, while you can download others from its Google PlayStore. It also provides you with the liberty to sideload outside applications on it. The UI of this Motorola TV is pretty smooth and fast too. The graphics are pretty good and this TV is appropriate for casual gaming, but the RAM capacity and low refresh rate impedes its performance while playing high-end games. You can certainly play high-end games on it through a gaming console, but then too, playing 120 Hz games through PS5 will not be possible on this TV.

In my opinion, this is a fairly good IPS panel TV with good picture quality and pretty good audio, but it has its own limitations too. It is definitely an upgrade over the last year's model Motorola ZX, which came with an ADS panel. And, I did find Motorola ZX Pro brighter than some other low-cost LG TVs, but its performance is not to the level of its own sibling Nokia, which comes with a VA panel and better brightness. If you compare it with Motorola Revou, then too, this new model turns out to be marginally better.

In my opinion, now, when budget category TVs, like Mi QLED TV has come up with HDMI 2.1, it is a bit disappointing for gamers not to find any such port on this TV, hinted at being a gamer's bliss.
