Is Xiaomi's Flagship Smartphone, Mi 11X, an All-Rounder? In-Depth Review

Is Xiaomi's Flagship Smartphone Mi 11X A Real Beast?

Xiaomi's Flagship phone, Mi 11X was launched just before the time Covid 19 had started showing its fury by wreaking havoc on the lives of uncountable people in India. At that time people were going through their own miseries so the release of this phone went haywire.

Mi 11X

Now, when things have started getting normalized, the company has again released it after making some additional software changes. After these vital changes, the phone has turned even better. Now, it comes with Xiaomi's latest UI, 12.5.1, which replaces its earlier MiUI 12, which was a bit buggy. The phone comes packed in a premium hard cardboard black box, on which, "Made in India" is mentioned. The box also carries the specifications of the phone. The phone comes in two variants, one has 6 GB RAM, while the other has 8 GB RAM. The storage on both these variants is 128 GB. My review unit was an 8 Gb variant. Both variants have LPDDR5 RAM.

Inside the box, apart from the handset, is a 33 Watts fast charger, a USB type C charging cable, a sim ejecting tool, a type C adapter for headphone, this user manual guide, a warranty card and this transparent soft case.

 Design Xiaomi Mi 11X

A slim designed body all draped in silver makes this phone premium and elegant in looks. Mine was Celestial Silver. Apart from this one, there are options for Lunar White and Cosmic Black colours. Celestial Silver is a very beautiful colour on which multiple colour shades keep on reflecting. It is so attractive that it is sure to grab the attention of others wherever you carry it with you. The Cosmic Black gets a glass finish on the back, too, as it comes with a Gorilla Glass 5, but, the glass acts as a major fingerprint magnet. However, this Celestial Silver phone with a mat finish hardly attracts fingerprints. This phone is ultra-slim which makes it pretty convenient to hold. Though this phone weighs 196 gm, it hardly feels heavy in hand. The 6.67 inches AMOLED screen of this phone is fully flat and the back is curved. The bezels of this phone are thin. The resolution of the screen is FHD+ and it has an aspect ratio of 20:9.

On the front, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has been provided to protect this phone from scratches and accidental falls. This phone is 100% dust-proof, but not waterproof. Though, you can call it splash-proof. On the bottom of this Phone, there is a speaker grill, a sim card tray and a charging port. On the top, too, there is a speaker grill. This phone comes with a dual speaker set-up. The sim tray has slots for two Nano sims, however, there is no memory card slot, which might disappoint those who need more space for their needs. On the right side, there is a volume rocker and power button. The fingerprint scanner is embedded within this power button. The fingerprint and face unlocking of this phone happens with blazing fast speed.

Camera Xiaomi Mi 11X

mi 11X Cameras

The front camera of the phone is 20 MP, while the rear camera set-up is a bit different in looks from other phones, and, it looks pretty smart, too. Mi 11X comes with a triple camera set-up. The main camera is 48MP, the second one is an 8MP Ultrawide camera, while the third is a 5MP Telemacro camera. Here, this side, apart from the flash there is a microphone. The phone comes with a triple microphone set-up along with an audio zoom feature. When you will focus on any subject, then, this phone will pick up a 360-degree surround sound, after cancelling the background noise. The audio zoom feature amplifies the sound to record it in high quality. This feature comes in handy during vlogging or while making any personal video.

 Display Xiaomi Mi 11X

E4 AMOLED display

This phone gets an E4 AMOLED display, which is the latest generation of AMOLED displays. For the front camera, a tiny 2.76 mm notch is provided, which doesn't distract at all while watching videos and simultaneously maximizes the viewing area. I have compared the display of this Mi phone with Samsung's Flagship, Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ on my YouTube Channel Techiebeez India. To watch that video, CLICK HERE. Both phones were set at their full brightness. The video on my channel TECHIEBEEZ INDIA would surely help you in analyzing the display quality of this Mi 11X phone. Even in front of an excellent phone, the display of the Mi 11X phone looked pretty good. Honestly speaking, many a time, the colour reproduction of Mi 11X looked even better than Samsung's Flagship. According to the company, Mi 11X has 1300 Nits peak brightness. I have checked this phone in Sunlight, and, at full brightness, its screen was pretty legible. Coming to its display, the colour reproduction of the phone is superb. The foremost thing about its colours is that the colour temperature sensor given on this phone imparts accuracy. The colours appear pretty vibrant and realistic, too. On this phone, you get to see deep Blacks and pure Whites. The phone gives 100% coverage of the DCI-P3, because of which you get to see richer colour tones on it. Even more interesting is the fact, that this phone comes with multiple manual settings, which are instrumental in giving you the best viewing experience. Watching videos on this phone is a visual treat. This phone has Widevine L1 support, so you can watch Netflix videos in high quality. This phone supports HDR10+ and comes with a contrast ratio of 5000000:1. You can watch HDR10 videos on it and play HDR games as well. Mi 11X has a dedicated ambient light sensor, which keeps on adjusting the brightness of the screen according to the lighting conditions. However, if you want, you can switch it off.

 Audio Xiaomi Mi 11X

Dual stereo speaker set-up

For audio, a dual stereo speaker set-up has been given on this phone, which supports Dolby Atmos, too. The audio quality is pretty good. While watching videos, each and every dialogue can be heard loud and crystal clear. Music, too, can be beautifully enjoyed on this phone. Under the audio settings, you get a lot of preset equalizer modes, which can be chosen according to one's taste. Apart from high-resolution audio, you get a pretty good surround sound experience on this phone.

This phone supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6 apart from having a dual-frequency GPS. Coming to the call quality; It is very good. This phone excels in catching both Wi-Fi and cellphone signals really well. Even in areas having a signal problem, you get good networks. To test the call quality, I have spent about 2-2 hours talking to people and still, I did not feel any discomfort. This phone has a very good ability to cancel background noises.

The phone comes with a Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Electronic Compass, Linear Motor and IR blaster. You can use this phone as a remote too.

 Features Xiaomi Mi 11X

In this Flagship phone of its, Xiaomi has used an Octacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor, which is a pretty powerful processor that uses 7nm process technology and whose clocking speed of the Prime core is 3.2 GHz. Its GPU is Qualcomm Adreno 650. The Antutu Benchmark score, of this phone at 657,789, is well ahead of its rivals. You can smoothly use this phone without any lag even during multitasking. Even after switching between multiple applications, I did not come across any lag. The gaming performance of this phone is pretty good. Superb graphics complemented by a powerful processor makes this phone a good option for gaming. MEMC and a 120Hz display keeps motion blur in check. The company has also provided a Game Turbo Mode to boost the gaming performance of this phone. The phone has a 360 Hz touch sampling rate, so, every touch of yours gets a pretty fast response. During gaming, you can use more than two fingers as this phone supports multiple finger support.

Talking about its gaming performance; The graphics are pretty good. On medium graphics, high-end games run smoothly. While playing Call of Duty on high graphics, no unusual heating issue was observed, but, while playing PUBG, on high graphics, the phone did heat-up around the camera module. Maybe, this was due to the VPN, which we used on it as PUBG is currently banned in India.

 Camera Review Xiaomi Mi 11X

I have spent a lot of time with this phone and overall got a good user experience. The new updated MiUI 12.5.1 has made the Mi phones user-friendly. I did not find any irritating advertisement on it, neither, did I come across any Bloatware. There are some applications on it, whose icons are visible on the screen, but they are not the downloaded ones, which can use your space. Whichever application you want out of them, you can download it in just one click, the rest stay there, without occupying the space of your phone.

Now coming to the camera performance of this phone; I have demonstrated that in detail on my channel Techiebeez India. I have not passed judgement regarding its camera performance by just clicking a few photos indoors. To test its camera rigorously, we spent an entire day outdoor, testing it. I believe that the camera of any phone comes in handy mostly when we shoot videos and photos while travelling, or when we click selfies, do casual photography or use it for vlogging. So in the video, I have covered all these aspects while testing its camera.  The 20 MP front camera shoots pretty good natural selfies, which do not impart an artificial look to your photos.

The 48 MP rear camera performs pretty decently; photos turn out sharp with realistic colour reproduction. The foremost thing about these photos is that the camera produces accurate colours. Wherever there is sunlight, there you will see light only and where there is shade, you will get to see the shade with the same intensity as in the original scene. This phone does not work towards unnecessarily brightening everything, which spoils the ambience of the scene in many phones. The phone has 4X digital zoom, but images turn out good only till 2X. At 4X, the camera stability gets affected and the clarity gets compromised.

The panorama shot gives wide coverage of any scene, retaining the clarity, details and sharpness in the picture.

The Telemacro 5 MP camera gives a superb performance. The images of even very tiny objects are clicked with amazing clarity, and, the background bokeh created, gives an impression of professional photography.

To show its video performance, we created a short travel video on our channel, which will give you an idea of whether this phone can be your true travel mate or not. The video performance of this camera is good. The colour reproduction of the videos is pretty accurate, and, the videos display good sharpness, details along with being life-like. The detail clarity of the Mi 11X camera is very good. It sharply captures even very far-off subjects. Though the rear camera shoots good videos, if we indulge in its finer details, then panning the camera makes the frames a bit jittery, and, the lack of smoothness in frames becomes evident. But this problem is limited to only 4k videos. The company, instead of giving 4k@30 fps, should have given 4k@60 fps in this flagship phone. In FHD videos, this problem is not there as you get 60 fps. A good microphone system along with a stable video from the front camera work towards making this phone fully apt for vlogging. If we talk about the overall camera performance, I can just say that if the company would have paid a little more heed to it, then this phone would have been a superb all-around package. However, still, I will say that if you do not expect an exceptional level of camera performance from this Rs 30,000 phone, you will be satisfied by its performance. The overall camera performance can definitely be termed as above average.

 Battery Test Xiaomi Mi 11X

Coming to its battery; this phone comes with a 4520 mAH battery that even on heavy usage, gives you enough juice to last a day, and, if you are a normal user, the battery will last for one and a half-day. Talking about the battery's charging time; the 33 Watts fast charger charges the battery from 0 to 100% within an hour.

Photo Editing Tool Xiaomi Mi 11X

I really liked one more feature of this phone, which is the photo editing tool on it. I have never come across this attractive feature even in my Samsung Flagship phones. This phone allows you to change the sky on your photos to make them more visually attractive. You can give your still photos, an impression, of being a video, and, also remove unwanted objects from your clicked photos. The catch is that the edited photos look natural as if they have been shot like that. On this phone, you also get a parallel world, through which you can create mirror images of your photos, thus making them look creative.

 conclusion

This phone comes with Android 11 OS, and, the Bluetooth is v5.2, which gives stable connectivity along with allowing connection with two headsets at the same time. Going by its price, in my opinion, it is a pretty good phone, which you can certainly go for. Even the Samsung Flagship phones cost more than Rs 80000, in those too, you don't get these attractive features, which you find on this Xiaomi phone.

 Mi 11X vs IQOO 7

If you compare this Mi 11X phone with its competitor IQOO 7, then too, Mi 11X beats it in overall performance and display. It is just that the camera of IQOO 7 is a tad better. However, in an endeavour to lighten up the pictures, at times IQOO 7 tends to overexpose them, which destroys the very ambience of the scene. Pictures clicked at night appear to be shot in daylight and the saturation level of the photos, too, is more on the higher side, thereby making the colour reproduction inaccurate. Apart from this, the pictures appear soft, not like Mi 11x that clicks sharp images. The details also get lost in IQOO 7 pictures. However, the beauty camera of the IQOO 7 phone renders more beautiful selfies, which are more apt for social media purpose. IQOO 7 also comes with a better fast charging capacity than Mi 11X. On the other hand, Mi 11X clicks pictures that come out with their realistic colours and ambience. Better sharpness and dynamic range are seen on the images clicked through Mi 11X. The Telemacro camera of Mi 11x is definitely superior to IQOO 7. And, then Mi scores some better brownie points also due to its larger service network.
